Together forever
"Sarah worked hard to keep everyone together I should say joined every link of the family. Taking care that no one was left out in the family moment. The love that bound us, was Sarah."
"Our kids have grown up, they now work in different cities and live with their own families. They visit us on weekends or on festivals along with our grandchildren." He sighed and continued,"Time flies by so fast, sometimes I wish I could be young again, just to relive my life with Sarah again. But then, wouldn't that be selfishness god has given everything I wished for. Maybe god may grant me next life with Sarah, seeing my clean rehabilitated life. I am sure he wouldn't take a risk of leaving me to someone else's care.
He stopped,took a deep breath and went silent for a few minutes then continued again," Last night Sarah was too ill. I couldn't find her pulse for a few seconds maybe because I got nervous. But at that moment I felt my heartbeat skip. I felt my world had stopped."
Suddenly the mobile rang, displaying 'Sarah calling'. "Mr. Frank, I think so it's your wife's call." I said, bringing him back from his memories. "Thanks Eddie, I just got lost in my world. I will just pick up the call first" It was a video call from Sarah. "How are you dear?" Sarah asked Frank, she was still on hospital bed.A lit bit too weak and I felt she was still not fully conscious or it was because of the weakness. "I am completely fine Sarah. How are you and what did the doctors say? Are the reports ok or did they refer further tests? Where is Lia?" He went on with his nonstop questions which showed how much worried he was for Sarah. I think so Lia was her granddaughter. " I am here, just beside her" A voice suddenly interrupted and a girl came on to the screen. "Actually everyone is here in the hospital and dad has gone to consult the doctor." She turned the screen to show grandpa, his entire family standing next to Sarah's bed"
The hospital room
Sarah continued," How was your day? you must have felt too lonely today as everyone was here with me." "No dear, I had a guest today with me and thanks to him, he was here with me till now." saying this Frank turned the camera towards me. "He is Eddie. I had dropped my packet at a cafe on the way and so kind of him, he came all the way to deliver it to me." "No sir actually your house comes in my way so I just stopped by" said I. Sarah was too weak to converse with me so she continued with Mr. Frank" Dear, you should be careful with your things. As usual you are always careless. Please take care of your things, you won't be having someone with you all the time to take care of your things." "The doctor will be here within few minutes for the check up, it would be better if everyone would be waiting out" said someone from crowd in the room.I think so at that time Lia's dad entered as he had gone to consult the doctor. Everyone was getting ready to leave the room and Lia still holding the phone as Sarah spoke to Frank. " Dear, if I don't be back by evening, please take your medicines without hesitation, don't forget your soup for diabetics and do not go for any sweet food" saying Sarah smiled and went still. Frank asked Sarah if she was feeling tired she better disconnect the phone but Sarah didn't reply. Her face was some what pale, suddenly she started breathing heavily. Lia seeing started shouting for the doctor. "Lia please do not disconnect the phone" said Frank. "Call the doctors immediately" he said. By that time Lia's dad and brothers had ran to get the doctors.
4 years later
An afternoon at the rehabilitation center, "mam, your family is waiting for you in the entrance hall, what should I tell them?" "Tell them to wait, I will wind up the work and join them within few minutes." The receptionist left the office.
At the entrance hall after a while, "Mom, where have you been, we are late to meet grandpa and grandma." a little boy ran towards Lia. "Where were you Lia? By this time we should have been there, I think so everyone must have gathered there, we still need to buy flowers on the way." "Don't worry Eddie, I had ordered for the flowers in the morning itself, I have got it, now can we leave instead of arguing before we get late." Eddie frowned yet kept cool and they left the rehabilitation center.
As Eddie said, everyone was present there before they reached. "Kale, stop running,be with me and be a good boy" " Mom, I forgot the candles in the car, can I go and get it?" "Ya, sweetheart but be quick and tell your dad everyone is waiting."
It was the death anniversary of Sarah, but even Frank had left for the heaven within a weak after Sarah's death. He suffered a heart attack, may be he couldn't take the pain of Sarah's death. Even death couldn't keep them apart for more than a week. Everyone had covered both the graves, with flowers and candles.
They all got ready for the prayers and stood around the graves which were side by side. "Mom, do we all sleep here after death? Are grandpa and grandma together in heaven as they are here?" A tear dropped from Lia's eye and she just hugged Kale.
